I see these lagged into stone to tie up horses and such.

Arty .. That is called a "Hold Back Plate and Ring" that were used on horse hames.

I know surrounding area was farmed into the 1950's. Was this a standard style hold back plate? I see that the illustration and documentation is from 1940's 50's. Just trying to determine if this was dropped into the site at a later time. Thanks for the excellent illustration of a Hold Back Plate and Ring. Arty
