Had a long day at work today. Yes I do work! Lol
Talked to Scrappy about coming down and swinging with me on this field that was mowed. Well I het there and it was not mowed!
I tols Scrappy to meet me at the 1700s tavern. When I get there he is coming out of the woods with bottles in his hand! He says to me there is all kinds of things in the woods, old foundation bottles..
I said I KNOW!!!!! LOL.
Anyway he talks me in to going in there to hunt. I really wanted to wait till Fall, because of the ticks. Anyway We go in and its pretty thick, kind of tuff to swing.
I get this great high tone. And say Steve this is a good one. He comes over, ( really glad he did) because im hacking away in the hole and he screams stop!!!! We look down and see a big silver. I pull it out and im shaking saying what is it???
Well its a German 3 thaler. From Prussia! !
This area was a big battle in rev war.
The battle of Whitemarsh. And there was British and Hessian soldiers camped here back in 1777.
This coin I believe fits in that time frame..
Thats my story and I'm sticking to it. Lol.
Thanks Steve for stopping me before I killed another coin.
Thanks for looking
George

Wow that has beautiful patina. I think I would leave it just like that.

Now that thing is bad ass brother. And the story makes sense. But you DO NOT work lol

That's an amazing find and about 30 or more years older and in better shape than the last Colonial Prussian coin I saw posted here (by fmerg). For Historical Significance I'm going to give it the Banner nod! Congrats!!

Man you keep pulling them out George. I've never seen anyone dig a German/Prussian silver from that period, and based on the context in which it was found I'd say your recovery was nothing short of spectacular. You don't need to go across the pond when you're filling your pockets with early silver right in your own backyard. Congrats on another mind-blowing find!!

The real story is I saw George sprinkle fairy dust and ground up four-leaf clover over the hole before the coin appeared.

You forgot a pic of my favorite part of your coin- the edge!!

Congrats George and thanks for the invite!

Steve

Have you seen him do that thing where he lifts his head, closes his eyes and then his nostrils flare...like he is sniffing the silver out?

Btw, Happy Birthday Abe :occasion13:

That is one nice coin!!! Beyond a great find! [emoji106]

You actually saw the coin first, so can you lay claim? :)

Great looking silver George, it's very different from what's usually posted up for silvers.
