Time period and could this have belonged to a prominent or rich person?

Dont think this is a shoe buckle, more like a sash buckle

Hey, real nice piece! Looks like copper so maybe not rich but pretty fancy anyway. Try a little lemon juice to clean and look for some gilt to come out under the dirt maybe.

A very nice find. I'm also thinking that this is not a shoe buckle, but great regardless.

Cool find, congrats!

Not sure about it being a buckle?:dontknow:

Nice!!! Congrats!!!

Thats a cool find does look pretty old would love to see it cleaned up an ID might be much easier. Tommy

That would be my guess too. Later Victorian sash buckle. Stamped brass, thin, and the pattern points that way. Still a cool find! Shoe buckles are thicker strong copper, brass, iron, pewter or silver.

Great find! Love the fancy buckles!

Nice find.

Too lightweight for a shoe buckle. Wondering if it might possibly be a fancy document binder (paper clip) or possibly a type of hair barret?

It’s a beautiful piece, no matter what it turns out to be. I’d have lost 15 minutes of hunting just rolling that over in my hand. Nice save!
