I found this today about 14 inches under the soil and about 25 feet from the tombac button I found a few weeks ago. ''

There are 5 pieces in all. Is it possibly white gold?
.
I'm hoping its colonial but I need help confirming it and possibly dating it.

I would love to see a non-dug example or something close to it.

The Whites V3i VDI was 88 in the ground but 33 out of the ground. The piece without the pin was 13 out of the ground.
AT Pro VDI was 48-55.

There is also a small X mark on one of the pieces near the pin hole.

Thanks

Mike

Is it possibly white gold?

white gold wasn't invented until the latter half of the 1800's and wasn't commercially available until 1912

Thanks for the Georgian buckle and white gold comments. I'm learning a lot.

It is a colonial shoe buckle. Worldtalker is correct in the time frame, but most like yours are 1760-1790 or so. It is probably silver. I have parts of silver ones in the past. White gold is pretty out of the question for that period in time. It was not fashionable to "hide" your gold by coloring it as silver. Look for a makers' mark.

I looked for a makers mark twice but only found the small x near the pin hole.00000IMG_00000_BURST20180708165642_COVER.webp

its about 1/4" to the left of the pin hole on the photo, on the thumb side. its on the face that doesn't have the pin hole. if you enlarge the photo you can see it clearly.

btw - i looked using jewelers magnifying glasses
