Going crazy from all the snow this winter and fighting cabin fever with my Fisher F75 in hand I took advantage of the 50 degree weather today and decided to hit the old colonial road I have been hunting and I wasn't disappointed. Within a few minutes my first swings produced a large button with the shank loop broken off and then I got a nice signal and dug down about 6-7 inches and out popped a 1723 halfpenny. Not a bad way to start out the 2014 detecting season.

It looks like the ground is not that frozen, the ground here is frozen solid, at least for now.

WTG - KEEP IT UP

Very nice dump issue coin, check the 1723 halfpenny, is not a farthing as they were pretty big in those days. Its just a guess because if it is a halfpenny, then you have a really rare dig!

That kg has very nice detail that is not seen very often. Great hunt! I would hunt the heck out of that area.

Very cool finds, good luck today, I bet your there right now?

Great finds and nice way to start the season Lcb. I'm chomping at the bit to get out, but still too much snow pack around here.

Awesome find , now I bet your really itching to get back out there !

Nice George 1, if it's a farthing the diameter should be about 25mm. I had a 1722 George 1 farthing the other day. You'res looks in better shape.

What area of pa? I'm in NEPA and have been looking for older roads but don't know how to tell.

I'm from SEPA... basically I look at old aerial maps of an area I'm going to hunt and look for roads that aren't on todays modern google maps and look for lines of trees and lines of worn ground that look like dirt roads or paths. Then I go and investigate and hunt. The earliest aerial photos I can find for this area I am hunting is from the late 1930's. The changes to the land from 1930's to today is unbelievable, would never know its the same land.

What does the term "Dump Issue" mean? I've been researching the coin online and see it described this way but don't know what it means.
