Had my boyfriend post this for me on my behalf, but after such an epic find he talked me into creating a profile here for myself instead!
SO here it is! A bucket lister of both of ours without a doubt, couldn't believe it when I finally removed it from at least 8" down. My first target at the site, right next to the perimeter of the cellar was this beautiful colonial sundial.
Some interesting information we dug up after finding this beauty, casted on the sundial is Josiah Miller, who manufactured these circa 1760. The marking "L42D" represents latitude 42 degrees, which indicates where it's supposed to be used. These sundials have been found along the Connecticut River valley near the 42nd latitude line. One of Josiah Miller's sundials currently resides in the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston another one at, The Met in New York. The day was not over after this find, simply just beginning. At the end of the day we found; 3 ½ coins, 3 shoe buckles, many buttons, a broken rat tail spoon, and an inscribed piece of brass with "hat is your" on it. A very successful day for both of us.
