Hello All, is this some sort of belt tip or similar? Dug in a site in Louisiana which was occupied 1780-1825 and no later coins found than that date. The left side (on the photo of the front) is beveled and the back has two studs where the piece was peened on to leather at one time. Studs are brass; they’re like the style on the pattern 1808 shoulder plate. The piece was cast brass and finished and it is heavy, weighing 2 ounces. Other items dug were shoe buckle pieces, Spanish silvers, gun flints.

Something that went on the base of some furniture?

It definitely was attached to leather judging from the peened-on studs
