Seems a bit small, but a definite possibility. :)

I agree. Fishing weight. Up here in the northwest they're found in archiology digs of our first white settlers. The weights were nothing more than flattened lead with a hole punch in it. Just like today, the sizes were made according to the type of fishing that it was being used for.

This area was settled in the early 1600's and is near a river. :wink: Should I green check it?
Can anyone find an image. I will search for colonial fishing weights. :wink:

Just look up Colonial Fishing Tools on the web. The eHow link gives a very nice history of how the Colonials fished not only out of necessity, but for pleasure. Anyway, good article to read on the subject.
