Colonial fishing weight?

Found this on a South Carolina barrier island close to some old ruins by the beach. Feels and appears old so I thought maybe a colonial fishing weight? Thoughts?

No, it is modern it is a 3 ounce oval sinker.An older sinker would be plain not with an ounce symbol on it, this type is made in molds like this It also had a brass swivel that would have been in the center where the hole is.
