Hey guys,

Recovered this copper ring at a colonial coastal site dating from the mid 1700s. Can anyone date it base on construction/design? There is a small split at the base of the ring for sizing

As kids we used to get copper rings that had a brass plating. The plating soon wore off and our fingers would turn green from the copper base. They all had splits on the bottom to fit all. There is no real value to making a ring out of a metal as soft as copper.
My hunch it's 1950's era. But I might be wrong.

Thanks for taking shot hacker, based on the crude nature of the construction, I suspect it's much earlier...gold plated rings were common in the 19th century as well for those that couldn't afford the real thing
