Hey Tnet, one old coin made me a very happy man today :icon_thumright:!! I got some permission to hunt a yard of a 60's house today and found my first Colonial Copper Coin!! I started off close to the house and hit a bunch of memorials and after about my 9th one, I hit yet another 12:42 on the etrac at 4 inches down & about 10 ft from the home and said damn another penny! Thank God I decided to dig because it will probably be one of my coolest finds ever! The copper did not do well in the Jersey soil and is barely recognizeable. However the direction the head was facing along with an X at the end of the lettering was enough to figure out just what I had. It's such a shame that it's so roached, but I'll enjoy it just the same!!

I did some research and found out this area was once part of a very large farm. ....I will definitely be getting back there soon.

The back is so bad, there're no markings of any kind left :BangHead:

Thanks guys!!

Just figured I'd throw it out there, I love reading other stories and figured I'd share this one. I wondered for awhile why this old coin was so close to this 60's house yet wasn't disturbed when it was built. Then it came to me, there're no basements in the area, only slabs!! So it made sense, the soil wasn't disturbed because they didn't need to dig up to far from the house.

GL & HH Everyone!!!

I took your reverse photo and did a 180* to put the date bar at the bottom, if you take a toothpick and carefully work the area under the date bar you might find the date 1717. A 1717 or 1718 KGI would be a bit smaller than the 1719-24 ones, about 1" or abt.26mm for the 17-18 issues and about 1.1" or 28mm for a 19-24 issue.
Not 100% sure of it being a KGI, but should be.

Don

Thanks Don, I will give it a shot!

I bet if you measure it would be consistent with the dump issue.
