I got out today with Colonial Copper Zeus and Kirk PA to one of our most productive fields. In five trips there, we recovered 23 large copper coins and many relics dating back to the Colonial era. Mr. Farmer cut the hay and we said, "Hay, let's hit it again!" :D

The day started off with me digging the large pewter object pictured below. I am wondering if it is a counterfeit silver coin of the period? If anyone knows, I'd greatly appreciate some assistance in trying to figure out what the heck it is. About ten minutes after that, I got a perfect "R" on "Quarter" reading on my analog machine. After flipping some dirt around, I was greeted with a beautiful King George III halfpence! I ended the day with some relics.

Colonial Copper Zeus and Kirk PA will be posting their finds later today!

Kyle

sorry to be a geek, but its a halfpenny, pence is plural.

Great looking coin! Congrats. Hogge :headbang:

Brother,

You found what we seek as well. A King George in that condition is like eating a strawberry with sugar on it...saaawwweeeeet!!! :icon_thumleft:

We must hit it at every angle possible, if geometry has that many angles for us to hit it at. :icon_thumleft:

Great detail on that KGIII halfpenny. That's a good looking copper. I'd like to see a close-up photo of the pewter thingy if possible.

Great hunt, folks.

Don't worry, Dug, we haven't put away those bikes. We will be riding bikes on Saturday and detecting the Colonial animal on Sunday.

I know there's at least one Colonial silver here. I hope we dig it soon! Maybe it will be a cut eight reales like the one you found? I envy that find of yours, buddy!

Thank you for the reply, Don! I know you and your son will be finding KG's and early year large cents this Fall.

Thanks for the correction, Cru. What do I know about proper terms? I always just call it a coppa. :D

Now, get back out in those sloppy fields of England and dig us more of my ancestors' coinage!

Thank you for the reply, Buck! I hope you and your Brigade dig up a large cent-loaded field this Fall! I know your research is pointing you in that direction!

You know me, D. Buddy! Most of my mind is taken up by thoughts of me digging up the Pennsylvania Colonial past! Nothing excites me more than flipping out a big green disc in a sloppy field on the frontier! :headbang:
