Minelab X-Terra-50, Whites classic 2
I dug this up at a local park not to long ago with my Whites Classic 2. It came up sounding like a quarter and was about 3 inches deep. What a surprise. I brought it down to a local coin dealer who looked through his books but couldn't find it. He thought is was a Conn. copper but wasn't sure. It is about the size of a quarter, has a mans face looking right with writting around the coin. The back appears to have a woman churning butter, but it is so worn it is hard to tell. The park is located across the street from an Inn that George washington slept in in 1790.
I can only imagine that his troops were pitched out in what is the park today.
If anybody knows any tricks to make the coin look better please let me know.

Definitely looks to be colonial.....congrats!
Could be Irish (Hibernia)...??
So many varieties had a similar reverse and bust is unclear.

Very nice find!!

Very nice find. I'm not really qualified to advise you on cleaning. Please post another pic after you get it cleaned. I've got it on my favorites. Way to go on the great find.

You might want to ID the coin before you clean it. As tempting as it may be.

I hope it's a rare one!

Congratulations!

Looks like a keeper to me. Carefull on the cleaning, you don't want to devalue it.

Nice find...maybe put it on the "What is it" forum and see what happens, maybe a clearer closeup too! Congrats!!

Try the potatoe method to get as much stuff off as possible. Try to Id it before any serious cleaning Tho.

I hope it is what you think.

A great find CC--Congrats

It looks to be a King George II halfpenny, nice find!

I agree with the above comments; don't be in a hurry to clean it! You never know what you might lose trying.

CodyCat!
Nice find my man!

I would suggest not doing anything to that coin until you have an expert review it. Yes, it may cost you a few bucks for a professional opinion but it may be the best money you ever spent.

Good luck!

It is most likely a common King George colonial, not sure if a KGIII or KGI, the bust is closer to a KGI coin, attaching a photo of one of mine, but with the condition, wear and scan quality, hard to tell.
It is not going to be a valuable coin, so go ahead and give it a good look and see if it is possibly a KGI, if so you have a coin from approx 1717-1724.

It is not a Hibernia, it is not a KGII. I have no idea why anybody would say CT if they cannot see any of the letters indicating so! Heck, if you go by the what is seen, than you could also say VT..
Odds on it is a KGIII or KGI...........

Cody, the quality of the scan makes it difficult to determine but you have the coin and look to see if you can tell if any letters are above the bust like on my attached photo.

Regardless, congratualations on finding an old copper.......

Oops! As Don said, not King George II head is facing the wrong way. Shape of the head looks more like a KG I than a III.

As Don pictured - Its a Geo I 'Dump' Farthing (if its 22mm) bigger than that & its a Halfpenny. cica 1720.
