Colonial coin, IH, and Wheats!

I got out today with RP to a site that has produced a lot of old coins lately. My 1st coin there was an Indian Head penny at 3.5". This is my 44th of the year. Then, the rain came for a bit, so we took a break. After a small break, we were back at it. I then came upon a "jumpy" reading that pinpointed at 4.5". I decided to dig it and out came a large coin. After further cleaning, it turned out to be a Colonial copper. This is my 3rd Colonial coin of the year! I cannot make out the variety though. It is about the same size and thickness as my 1774 British Half Penny that I found earlier in the year. After this find, I later went on to find 2 Wheaties.

About 15 minutes after finding my Colonial coin, I saw RP running towards me. He was yelling, "You won't believe this one, dude! Check this out!" He handed me an 1857 Seated Liberty half dime. He found it at a depth of 5". We were both super thrilled! That about summed up our day!

Zoyboy and Blitz went on their own way today. Zoyboy found an 1818 Large cent in F-XF condition. Blitz found 2 Mercury dimes. It looks like we all had a great day!

my brother and i found several of those coppers in a day. nice find :)

This is actually our 8th Colonial copper between the group.

Blitz - 3
Doy - 3
Zoy - 2

Update: I verified the variety of my Colonial copper. After closer examination, I noticed a "III" on the reverse of the coin. This indicates that it is a "Half Penny." This is my 2nd British Half Penny of the year!

Doy, It's good to hear from you again. School must be keeping you busy. :)

Great post. It's good to hear what you and your friends are finding. Williamsport must be a great detecting town. When was it founded?

I have to warn you......Brian is catching up...or has passed you on "The Great Indianhead Competition of 2006". Watch out!! ;)

Great digs bud!!! You've got me beat on colonial coins for the year 3-1 right now!! I need to find a way to catch up to you in that category! Grats on the indian and to your hunting buds!

Williamsport, PA, was incorporated as a borough in 1806, but it dates back into the 1700s. In the mid-1800s, it was the "Lumber Capital of the World".

Yes, I have been very busy during the week. I only can get out on the weekends. Brian is kicking my ass in the IH category now :D.
