Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
Found today with the Bergster at a new old colonial site. Dont know if its a shoe or knee buckle. If someone can tell me would be a great help. This is the first complete colonial buckle that I have found in all years doing this. Yes you can say I did the happy dance today:)
Also found this very unusual ring, its holed and kind of flat. It has Sterling on one side and very decorative on the other.
Thanks for looking.

Shoe buckle 1760s.
Excellent find well done.

Dave.

Agreed shoe buckle - date range given in book as - 1720-1790s (more likely 1790s)

The ring thing looks like it has a hand on the top? It maybe part of a clasped hand set. ie had another piece which had the other hand. No idea what it is, just a theory.
