Saturday I took Dirtstalker to one of my favorite colonial sites with the hopes that Allen would make some nice finds with the Deus on his birthday. Unfortunately the XP didn't come through for him but the lowly AT Pro did OK.

We spent the first few hours in a creek on the site Aquachigger style. I found a small bridle boss that has a little bit of leather strap attached to the tangs on the back. This site was unoccupied after the 1780s so it's 235+ years old; it's amazing how water preserves relics.

My other creek find was the back of a small two piece button, very similar to a larger one I found on the site last winter.

In the afternoon we hunted the main site. I found three buckles-a complete small solid silver one, an iron buckle and half of a fancy brass knee buckle.

Other finds included half of a pair of scissors, a furniture tack, part of a horseshoe, pottery, black glass and pipe stems. While Allen didn't fare as well (and was still talking trash about the AT Pro on the way home) I think he had fun getting out on his birthday. One of these says maybe he'll wise up and get a Garrett...

Patch he's not saying that i broke my army shovel handle and he said you don't need anything but a screwdriver because we gonna hunt the creek but he had something I could dig with, and when we went into the woods he hands me a Spoon :laughing7:

I've dug a large number of colonial leather ornaments over the years but never remember finding one with some leather attached. Very cool!!

Thanks Bill. The only reason the leather survived is because (I presume) it was lost in the creek and stayed underwater for all those years. I have also found pewter buttons in that creek in pristine condition and a complete pewte spoon with no deterioration.
