Hello people, i dug this broken brass buckle a few days ago & noticed it has what appears to be a makers initials on it. This is a first for me. This almost certainly couldnt be a common thing for a brass buckle, as i have never seen this on any buckle i have dug in the past, if in fact it is one (initials):dontknow: Basically, i would like your opinions on whether or not it is a makers mark. Thanks for any help.

Looking at the colour I would say it's part of a cast silver buckle....bit like this one, which is also stamped on the back. Nice find. UK Finds Database - - - UKDFD

Yes, its a makers mark, I have them on a few buckles from this period on many types of metal including pewter, tombac, brass, silver, copper-alloy.
