Got a very late start today as I was taking care of business that took longer than I wanted. Called one landowner that lives on a 1700's site that I have hunted before but they were on the way to take their dog to the vet and then to Dr. office. I told him I much prefer that he be there when we hunt so I can show him what we find and he really appreciated it and told me to call him later and we could come out and hunt. Feels great when the landowner calls you by your first name and remembers you. Several of our founding fathers have stayed at this house and many historical figures as well. His wife wants us to hunt around the house and the slave shacks next time we come out. I feel there is a GW button just screaming to be found. So then I called my buddy Sham (Shamborelics) who was already in the area and we decided to visit another site that I have permission to hunt. As we drove into the driveway Sham says he has permission from the neighbor next door to hunt their property as well. We are in the area of a large battlefield. So I went to talk to the owner and then I called Sham over to introduce him to them. We must have talked for quite some time about finding relics. This site has both Colonial and Civil War relics as the property dates back to the 1700's as well. Well it didn't take long before I found a flat button. Then I found a couple more. Sham hollers over that he found a saddle "piece". Well my hearing must not have been too good. He said as I got closer that he found a saddle shield. And it was a beaut. We only hunted for a couple hours then it started to rain and we had to make it back to the vehicles. As we left we scouted out the other property we have permission to hunt. This is a lot of land we have to cover but we are sure there are some more good relics to be found. Sham and I will be leaving Saturday for the DIV hunts in Virginia and hope we can find a lot of Confederate relics while we are there for the 6 day hunt.

great finds :) best of luck with more to come

The site really shows promise given the short time you had before the rain Randy. You should come out with some real keepers. Nice finds and I hope you dig a nice plate at DIV. HH, Quindy.

Thanks Quindy. We have found 3 ringers, buttons, some burnside brass, flat buttons and much more. A friend of mine has found some reales, breast plate, stirrups as well. We have a lot of area to cover so there should be tons of more stuff. I am looking forward to DIV with 6 long days of hunting. I will be sending you an update while we are there.

Nice finds. Good luck at DIV.

Thanks Doug. We usually do pretty well there. The first hunt I have hunted there before so know the layout pretty good. The second hunt is a mystery and has not been hunted before so hopefully it is a virgin site. After six long days of hunting I am going to be one sore puppy when I get home.
