I know all of on here search through rolls of coin for Ag/Cu. So, in my mind that brings up a question, do any of us buy bullion coins like ASE's, maple leafs, and libertads? I do, every month I go to my local Coin store and buy usually two or three ounces to add to my collection. As of right now I have 12ozt of silver bullion with the majority of the Ag in junk (hunted) silver.

I buy bullion all the time, since I cant get halfs in my area :BangHead:. Maple leafs are my favorite, but I do have some generic buffalo 1 oz rounds. Currently have a order processing with $8 face of some 90% coins. Cant wait!!

I am collecting american silver eagles, both proof and uncirculated, as well as the canadian wildlife 1 oz .9999 silver coin series...

Does that count?

:D

I can't spell if my life depended on it, but you get the point :-[. So apparently there was a credit card scam\thing not too long ago where the people would get $500 boxes on their credit cards (how that's possible, I have no idea. Didn't know the bank took credit cards, but anyway...) to rack up "spending points". Then just simply dump them into the coin machine or just trade in the rolls. Then they would eventually have enough points to get free stuff from the credit card companies. Not sure whether that's illegal or not, but the banks caught on and stopped ordering halves all together. My friend is a teller and that's what his head teller told him. :dontknow:

I know this was a problem ordering directly from the mint-

Here is a brief article discussing that. I have never heard of a bank accepting credit card payments nor a bank unwilling to order because of the frequent flyer scam, but maybe?

It sounds like the head teller is confusing the order for a box of half dollars with the 'scam' as mentioned above. Just go to another bank or two, you'll find somebody to order you boxes.

I do on occasion.

As I have stated before, I am doing this because I have zero retirement saved. I have no 401k for backup. I need to save, save and save and make up 40 years or retirement savings in 20 years. CRH is one way I do that. I occasionally buy rounds from the local coin shop, when cash permits me to do so. Right now with being out of work, it doesnt exactly give me the funds to do it but in the next month or so when things pick up again. What I dont make in CRH find I will cover in generic rounds.

My low weekly goal is 2 oz a week set aside. My high end goal is 4 ounces and of course, anything beyond that is extra gravy. I have only been collecting 3 months as of yesterday and I am currently sitting on 47.5 ounces of silver. I need to collect 208 ounces a year to be on track. Unless I start doing massive quantities of halves, it wont come easy for me. and buying rounds isnt exactly cheap either. Luckily for me, generics are $2 over spot, I wont buy more than one ASE and Maple because they run $4 over spot here.

I've been buying very small amounts of junk silver coins when extra money is available.

Most people would laugh at my small amounts, but it adds up in the long run.

If it has silver in it and is at or just over spot, I buy it. Junk coins, sterling silver, rounds, bars, philharmonics, SAEs, Libertad / onzas, maple leafs, pandas, silver dollars, anything without a premium (other than Morgans and peace dollars.....a personal weakness) Buy whenever you can, never sell and stack 'em high!

^ This is my plan as well, except for the Pandas. Screw the Chinese and their silver. I don't want to do anything to help their economy. >:(

I buy Britannias and would like to get a few Pandas if I can find them for a reasonable price over spot. My coin shop used to sell Britannias at ~$8 over spot, but raised their price a few months ago, before that I would routinely buy all that they had. I've always liked the low mintage of Britannias along with the design (mintage of 100,000 for most pieces, lower for earlier issues) and they are fairly underpriced when compared to US "rarities" like the 1916 D Mercury dime with nearly triple the mintage (264,000 1916D Mercury Dimes). I also buy some Libertads too. Never been a huge fan of Eagles though, I've got an uncirculated one and a proof one but never really saw the need to get anymore (unless I can find some selling under spot). I've also wanted to get a St. George the Victorious (Russian Bullion Coin) but they are hard to find in the West, might end up having to buy from a Russian/European dealer.
