cold weather affects on detectors

I had the same problem the other day w/ mine . I think the batteries were cold. The detector had spent the night in my trunk. Did you do that also ???

no i always keep it at home till i'm ready to go out,but i was out there 4 over 2 hrs

I highly doubt it could damage it. My dfx when it's really cold I mean cold like below 20 will sometimes have a hard time ground balancing. The display will look a little faded also. But overall it runs well even in the coldest temps. White's are built really tough. I don't know about any other units.

hey jerdfx,i've also got a whites,a qxt,but 20 below?i thought i was hardcore,but you're my hero

Dad and I used to coin shoot around old mine camps and homesteads in the winter in WVa because the brush and bugs wern't bad in the winter. We would go out when the snow was gone, but it was still cold and our detector was a red RAY-scope and had trouble working in the cold.Dad jot a jonnie hard warmer and rigged a pouch on the bottom of the detector with a pad in between them and that took care of the problem.Dinn't do much for the frozen ground though,so we shoveled the finds in a bucket and went through them at home in the basement after the clumps thawed out.

I left mine out in the car in the teens and it killed my batteries. Barely would power up and went from almost full charge to almost nothing. Monty
