Went out today with my buddy Rick for a long cold day of relic hunting. We hit a camp that I and many others have pounded for 2 decades. Today was proof that no site is ever truly hunted out. We must have set a record today for 12th Georgia buttons, but the CW relics were few and far between. I dug first a deep minie that at first I thought was an Enfield but turns out to be a carved minie. Several hours later I got a loud banging signal that at first I assumed was a aluminum can, but as I dug down I saw brass and the letters US...Oh yeah! a cartridge box plate! This is now my second US plate from this site that also last year gave me my first and only capped bust half dime. No other finds were made anywhere else around it making me believe that the soldier threw it over the hill when the attachment loops broke. As we were leaving we hit a small spot that the soldiers used as a target range and we dug together 5 fired 58 cal. minies. Absolutely lovin' my Teknetics G2! Also here is a pic from last Sunday of an 1864 IH and a 1962 Rosie.
