I was wondering if any of those coin counting companies that have machines in supermarkets offer you to buy the machines and routes.

I know Coinstar is solely owned and operated by them but was wondering if there are any other companies out there that might do this.

Make money from people cashing in there coins, then sort thru the coins.

Fun!

idk if you would want to...... I mean you would have to have a lot of money to offer that service but I guess you could buy your own coin sorting machines and just put ur own name on it, then just ask stores to put ur machines in them. Well let us know if yah find anything out.

Yeah, you could even undercut Coinstar's 8.5% fees. Why should they be the only game in town?

Do they even put them in rollers?

I just talked to my bank manager and they said I can drop the coins off in their canvas bags without rolling (got the idea to ask about this from this forum, thanks).

Anyone know which company makes these coinsart type of machines?

Im doing some searching now...heck, I might start my own business...

Charge like 4% and save all the keeper coins!

I know Brinks picks up the full bins for Coinstar. You would need to figure out a way to pick up $4,500 (2000 - 3000 lbs.) worth of coins in a bin and haul them off if you wanted to search them. Then you have to dump the ones you don't keep.

I looked at doing this awhile back. Was told the machines reject silver cuz it's heavier then clad. May want to research that. It killed of my desire to buy one for the creeps to kick and tag. My bank has one that you can use for free w/ an account there. It rejects silver.

Coinstar is the company that makes several of these machines. Besides counting machines, they have also made some other vending machines. The 8.5-9% that is charged by a Coinstar machine is shared with the business that it is located in. Infact, Safeway Grocery demanded a higher cut and Coinstar refused and lost the contract with Safeway. If I remember correctly, you can avoid the service charge if you choose to deposit your money onto a prepaid card that is offered.

I'd be willing to bet of that 8.5% the location that stores the machine gets at least 5%

We have a chain of local coinless casinos here in Vegas that installed Coinstars last year. We were thinking about putting them in the hotel where I work till we found out the casino's cut is only 2%, so if you dump $1,000 in halves Coinstar gets $65, the casino gets $20 and you walk away with $915.
