It just amazes me how people don't hear a big coin like that hit the reject. Oh well better for us who check the coinstars.

Maybe they're talking on their cell phone while the coins are dropping down and they aren't paying attention.

I checked a Coinstar machine in Walmart today and got two coins, a 1972-D Kennedy Half and a 1944 Wheat Cent.
Was the half rejected because the CoinStar does not recognize the denomination or was there a different reason?

I have experienced multiple coin machines in banks that will not accept halves.

Wow! Never thought a coin that size could get through the screens on those machines. I'm checking my Walmart and Winn-Dixie more often.
I've found quite a few halves in the Coinstars, including a few 90% and 40% silver ones. Keep checking those machines.

I really don't know what causes the machines to reject the halves. The coin machine at my credit union accepts halves and the small dollar coins but won't take IKE dollars. I guess it depends on the brand of machine as to what they accept or reject.

Ironically, when I visited the coinstar today I found the attached receipt on the machine. You can see there were some numbers of dollars and halves, compared to the many thousands of the other denominations. I don't know how long it is between pickups, but that is lots of coins!

When my wife is shopping I sit in our truck reading and I can see the coinstar and I am like a hawk watching my prey when people are using the coinstar and I have found I don't like kids because they are at the reject bin level and they notice the coins in them and let their parents know GRRRR. LOL

If I'm in a store and there's someone using the machine I hover around like a vulture until they're done and gone. Then I quickly move to the machine and give it the "stoop and look". :laughing7:
