Coins, Buttons, Buckles & Bullets

Spent the day hunting the site of a house built in the 1700's. Lots of surrounding fields, plus its my next door neighbor, very convenient! Found 2 colonial buttons, 2 buckles (shoe or belt??), 1 wheatie, 1 indian head, and some bullets. Question: What is the best way to clean an indian head penny? It appears to be in good shape underneath all the crap. Any suggestions? Thanks and HH
