I found three Indians a 1903 in nice shape , a toasted 1889 , and an unknown that looks like it got into a fight with a hammer. Notice how the one is slightly larger. I wonder what happened to it maybe a train? I also found a number of bullets , casings , and a couple of iron buckles not shown. the last two pictures are the unknown items. If anyone knows what any of it is please let me know. I think I have found 3 or 4 1889 Indians in the last few months it seems like that year is always toasted anyone know why that could be?

Looks like a Roy Rogers Gunbelt buckle, part of a sock garter connector, and maybe a cover for an auto tire air valve? Great finds :occasion14:

John845, looks like you are becoming "one" with your shiny new Vaquero...I never tire of seeing those beautiful, green Indians, and I spotted a Colonial pull tab with the silverware! As for why your Indians are in rough shape..hmmm, I don't really know, i guess if I was in the ground for a century or so, I'd be a little toasty too! I took a close look at your buckle and was reminded why I love that old stuff, the ornate designs along with the fact that it was made well enough to survive a hundred years plus, of New York's weather. Great post, greater finds, thx for sharing, Ddf.

John845, (Indian John), you must have 2 dozen Indians , this year already ?!... Good hunt, buddy... can't believe your still pulling them there.

some coin make ups don't fair very well with some soils/fertilizers. I have dug IHs and Buffs that were very toasted only to dig one that was very nice in the same area, who knows. but it looks like you are doing fine with the new machine

Cool buckle and IH's! :occasion14:

some of them fair pretty well in the ground but the 1889 are always toasted for some reason. thank you everyone

A very great start with that new machine, I willl have to check my stash on 1889 Indian question.

Checked through some of my Indian head pennies and found some both ways ,some clear and some toasted. The early copper -nickel ones always took a beating, most of the whole deal on these is soil conditions and fertilizer in soil.More 1888 ones came up versus the 1889 in better condition.

Nice saves, love digging those IH's, very cool buckles, congrats

The first one i ever found came out of the ground like it was just dropped. Where I'm out now it seems like the ground is pretty rough on them. Theres alot of minerals and theres certain spots where any machine I use they all do this weird double beep thing. also lots of hot rocks
