Hi all and thanks for your help. I posted this find with some other things a couple of weeks ago and have since cleaned it up some and am still puzzled! :BangHead: I found it in a stream bed with lots of iron around. Someone had missed it as there were holes around, (I fill mine). As you can see... It was CRUSTY and at first thought, another bridge washer:thumb_down:! I have seen similar objects on this site but none that give a description. I'm guessing a coin of sorts but with the off center hole and being cupped, I have no idea. Looks like silver, sounds like silver, Iv'e yet to taste it! Any markings are LONG GONE! My apologies if this may be redundant....

This is a flat button I found next to a 1923 Buffalo nickel...big buttons are possible!

They are possible but it is not flat has only one hole, off center and is thick like large dollar. Dang. Others have had almost identical pictured with coin finds.
On a side note. These posts are fun! I really enjoy looking at others mystery treasures!

I just had to put up a post to try and figure out what this is. It still had the leather attached to the back when I found it.

I don't know Metal D. Military or scout metal? Was the leather fitted or larger than the metal? A pin maybe? It's difficult to see the detail.

Oh. And welcome from another newbie! To the site anyhow.

Had another user tell me he believed it was a decoration on a horse piece. The leather was attached like a button like it had been pulled off. And welcome as well. I'm already in love with this app on my Android.

Original post is not a coin. It has a "dished" shape where one side has a cupped rim indicating it was punched from one side. Coins are pressed in dies and are flat.

Welcome Metal.Detective.......Hint.....You need to start your own thread (Called Hijacking) and not post your find in another members. Also really helps if you get good pics of front and back. Always set on or by some item that lets them get a really good idea on size like calipers or a ruler etc. We have some amazing members here than can positively identify things that the average person would not have a clue...myself included most of the time. Sometimes the hunt for what an object is can be about as fun as actually finding it. Hope this is just one of many neat finds you post for us and again....WELCOME:hello:

Me too! LOL, Even my GF is addicted!

Anyhow, Just found this old thread that explains holes in coins, http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/coins/117286-why-holes-coins.html a very good read indeed! But still left with the question of what coin could it be. If it is a coin with a hole it has got to be my oldest one to date! or not a coin at all.... Wish it were in better shape.

Charlie, I had also noticed the "cut" of the object. Another thought I had was maybe some sort of "freeze Plug" that had been removed. Might explain the shape but silver? There were Railroad items found near by.

Just for the record...wasn't trying to hijack anyone else's post. I was just showing the original poster something strange I found. I had already started my own thread before I posted in this one. Wasn't trying to make anyone mad. Sorry if I did. Thanks for the welcome.

Did not see yours.....sorry bout that......just now got to it below this one. Again welcome. Kills me to not be able to identify what I find. Happens every now and then to all of us. The Horse tack idea sound like it is the most likely candidate so far. :icon_thumleft:

It's all good Guns. I've got several items from a house built in 1742 that I can't ID. I live in Halifax County NC. The place where independence was born with the Halifax Resolves. The house is about a mile from where it all began. I've got pictures. Just gotta find out what they are.
