So now that I've narrowed down the date location based on the visible MOD of 'moderato',I believe I see a 1670 or 1676,unreal

Something to consider with this one. I've never seen a coin button (seen a lot) that was converted by driving a shank throw the coin.

But I have seen contemporary forgeries taken out of circulation by driving a nail throw the middle. This practice was also common on cancelled tokens.

Perhaps it's not a button, but a coin that was nailed to something.:dontknow: Cool find.

There was a practice of nailing a coin to a new building, to bring good luck.

Now there's a neat thought !!

I think I will nail a termite to my next home... just in case.
It would at least put all the other neighborhood termites on notice. :laughing7:

A house down the block is being tented, which is why the thought crossed my mind.

Cool coin (button?), whatever!! !

Interesting indeed although miraculously there was a piece of leather or twine still in the middle when I pulled the coin...
