Fantastic find dirty mike!!! As you know, it is a counterstamp, but it seems to have served a different function than "cheap advertizing" Russel Ruleau would flip to see this one, and I kow he does not have it listed in his last token book. Hopefully someone here can identify it, but I just wanted to congratulate you on an extremely cool find!

I really know nothing about this coin or its use so any help would be very appreciated.

I'm truly curious.
Assuming it is a William III half penny, what do you see that tells you the date? My understand is the date would be on the reverse (counterstruck) side and I can't see squat there.

Are you sure its a William 3rd halfpenny? - The bust looks like George III First issue halfpenny (1770 - 1775).

Weigh the coin and convert the OZ. To grains. Counterfeit coins weigh less . But, don't let the word counterfeit upset you. Counterfeited coins coins of this nature are more "Attractive" to dealers..

Don't think it's Counterfeit.....just Counter stamped, which would probably make it the same weight as a Half Penny :P

No I am not sure. I am really just going by some pictures I have seen on ebay.

Don.....
I was told that was the date of this coin. I did not realize it was made for several years. Sorry I am no coin expert.

What do you know about the coin posted SilverSearcher? That appear very close with slightly different IK design. A counterstamped counterfeit would be something else.

Nice Counterstamped King George III Halfpenny! :hello2: It is without a doubt a KGIII copper and not a William III, letters IVS are showing, not MVS that a William copper would have.

Odds on a counterfeit since it was found in the states, but weight is needed for saying for sure, although perhaps studying the letters visible could also say it is a counterfeit.

Whats a round about value for a coin like this?

It would have to weigh, considering wear at least approx 9 grams to be a regal Halfpenny, unless it was a KGIII Irish, but cannot tell from the photo. Assuming it is the Halfpenny and at that weight even if it were a Irish Halfpenny it is a counterfeit, approx 6 grams is only about 92 grains. If the coin was in the 9+ grams range than it would be in the higher 138 grains area up to 150 grains would be more regal.

No idea on value, but because of it being a counterstamped it would be of interest to collectors who specialize in counterstamped coins.
