Charleston sc

Detected in the rain today for about an hour and find some flat buttons and bits of copper, nothing great but getting out is a plus for me. I found this item, thought is was a large cent or a Hibernia, after I emptied my pockets I could only see what I believe is a T and have not idea what it is. The other side I can see a letter G and some other marking. Any Idea?

It really looks like a very well worn a counter stamp 1846 merchant token from W.W. Wilbur of Charleston, SC.

The T is a counterstamp but to me it looks like it may be a George II halfpenny if you rotate the second pic. There are lots of minor design varieties to these so this isn't an exact match but just to show the general features.

Thanks for the information, I thought I could see something like that on it, Why did they use a counterstamp?
THanks, Stephen

it could be an attempt to validate it's authentic or that it was legit to use...it can also be as mundane as cheap advertising from a local merchant.
