Found this at a 1780's farm. The one side appears silver plated with what I call crosshatching around the edges. Of course the details are not showing up great in my photos. The other side of it does not show silver. It is very heavy and makes me think it is lead or pewter with one side being silver plated?? I have searched and searched through old coins, tokens etc and can't seem to find anything with the same rim. I can't make out any other detail front or back. I did find a bridle rosette there as well that is in the last photo. Research shows the rosette might date late 1700s-early 1800s. The shiny side of this thing is more concave and I would think it would be the other way around if it were a rosette. Also found at this site last year was a cut and holed 2 real dated 1700-1746 (my oldest find to date!)

Yes, yours looks similar to the rosette I found but I'm not convinced the other piece is a rosette. It is flatter.
the back is solder filled, pure lead won't flake like that, solder was used to fill the back on rosettes as well as many civil war buckles and plates.

it seems to have writing around the rim, if so, can you make any of it out?

Looking through my loupe, I can't seem to make out any letters, just the marks I want to call crosshatch. Little lines that look like little pine trees side by side. haha
