This piece definitely threw me off. I picked it up a garage sale because it was attached to a very fine, enameled Art Deco gold and silver watch.
I actually thought this chatelaine was steel or base metal until I realized the pin stem was 14k gold. I went ahead and tested the body of the piece and its solid silver. The blue in the fleur de lis is enamel.
It is marked “GORHAM.” with the period after GORHAM and also marked COIN (for coin silver).
I did not realize that Gorham made jewelry - but apparently they did on and off since being founded in the 1830s.
I’m trying to figure out the age - I’m guessing Victorian because of the C clasp and the “COIN” but hoping to hear other opinions.
Thanks.
