My wife and I were detecting and old house in southeastern Pa. Dated somewhere in the mid to late 1700's. I found this coin about 8 to 10 inches down, but can't find out what it is or anything like it. It has 16 stars on both sides it is copper, no writing or date. and it has this screen pattern on it, both sides.
Any Help ID'ing it?
Thanks in advance!

Yes it believe it is copper and it is in nice shape, better then the picture as there was a resolution lost in blowing it up.
It is the same size as a modern quarter.

Alpert & Smith's Video Arcade, Pinball, Slot Machine, and Other Amusement Tokens of North America describes a similar piece as follows:

"5-ptd star surrounded by circle of smaller 5-ptd stars, and outer diamond grid border." The size is listed as 23 mm, which is close to that of a quarter (24.3)

This information appears in the "Mfr. Stock Arcade Tokens" section of the book.

Thanks! (Gee... demoted from "Dad" to "Kid," all because I admitted I was an Arkie. No, wait... I'm a kid again. All right!)

Thanks PBK!
Did it say what dates they were made or era?
Roger

No exact dates, but it's fairly modern.. probably post-1970, based on the dates of other tokens (video games, etc.) in the same section.

Hey, PBK, You can't help the Arkie part. You just are a little smarter than the average Arkie. (a little)

;D ;D ;D ;D

Thanks for the undeserved accolade, but in fact that would be impossible.

i found 4 or 5 of these in a six foot area in a modern park just last summer. i assume like pbk said, they are fairly modern since the location i was hunting is fairly modern.

Yes, ditto to PBK's comments about this piece. To my knowledge, there were not too many 18th c. coins that bore designs only (devoid of any writing or denomination marking). The only one that comes readily to mind is the "Bar Copper," one side of which was entirely composed of 13 parallel bars. (The other side did have other markings though--an interlocking U, S, and A. Interesting find though. Glad this was in good shape. I am always burning with curiosity when a coin is too corroded to make out any details (or worn smooth)--those situations get the same results as the number of licks to the Tootsie Pop center. LOL. Anyhow, Best of Luck!
