He means that's the date of the coin. However, in Arabic you read right to left, not left to right like we do, and to me, with it's new-ish look i'd say 1971.

One quick way I use to get a rough idea of these coin dates is to take the Islamic date of 1397 then multiply by 97%; then add 622. This would produce a Gregorian (our system) date of approx. 1977. Another way is to divide the Islamic date by 33.7, subtract that closest to whole number from the Islamic date, then add 622. In that case the results is 1978.

I know coins from all over the world can be found just about anywhere... its just neat to find the stuff where you woud't expet it... I have found Mexican, Chinese, 2000 year old Greek, and now Arabic coins in Texas... Neat stuff!
