Yup, Chinese cash coin. These were very common when I was a kid. Now some are selling for several dollars on Ebay. Beware of what you buy, though-- lots of modern fakes. If you found ti diving I bet its the real deal.

Hi FWT , i found the exact same coin last week at an 1880 alluvial Gold rush site here in Northern Australia " The Margaret Diggings " . Its Qing Dynasty ( 1644-1911 ) . This coin dates from 1736 to 1820 , i think its a transitional coin at the end of Emperor Gao Zong's reign 1736-1795 .. cheers Mick
