Found a Rosa Americana today and am now thinking its a penny rather than a half penny.
Its smaller than a King George copper half penny as you can see. and after the Americana you can see the UTILE DULCI. This style is evident in the penny, but the half penny after the Americana is the I of the DULCI written backwards. I am leaning toward it being a penny, but cannot see a date. 020.JPG019.JPG015.JPG017.JPG016.JPG018.JPG

Yes, penny it is, the one I found a few years back is also a penny. Mine is about 26.5mm. book says usually 27.5mm for the Penny. They do vary in size but the Halfpenny is closer to 21.5mm so that is a big difference. The Twopence is about 32.5mm

why would the Rosa penny be smaller than a king George half penny?

Sent a PM reply, but for others, that is probably the one reason they did not circulate much in America, despite being made for the colonies. They probably used the Rosa Penny as a equivalant to the British Half penny and the Rosa Half Penny as the equivalant to the British Farthing, just not sure, regardless, the sizes are what they are............

Also the Bath metal the Rosas were made from supposedly contained a small amount of silver which may have brought the intrinsic value of the smaller coins up somewhat.
