No amount of cleaning will help that slug. Its not a hammered coin of any description. Just a mystery blank...

If you look closely at the edge of the coin in the first image, it seems like a coin rather than a slug, unless you consider a coin that is unidentifiable a slug? :dontknow:

Could have been a token.
But looks like you'll never know anyway.

Garibaldi, it looks like you have fairly clear denticles on both sides which suggest its a coin. It also might have a portrait facing right if that isn't all corrosion. There may be some early German coins roughly that size. Is it small enough to possibly be a liard, or is it also too thick?

Maybe it's a 2 cent piece that has been run over several times on a road.

what is this on your coin? in the area circled

They are denticles, and if you look at the upper right quadrant of the first picture you'll see the evenly spaced denticles there also. There is also a pronounced rim. Considering the rim seems to be fairly undamaged, it should be possible to at least identify a few varieties of coins that have both denticles, a raised rim, and are of this coin's diameter that might have been in circulation over here. (garibaldi, you have to measure the exact diameter, the weight, as well as the thickness of the widest portion of the rim, if there's to be a chance of identifying type. If it's a token we're out of luck)

The coin is smaller than a 2 cent piece, but same diameter as a nickle. Also same thickness as a nickle, which I show in the last image. As far as weight, not sure. Seems the same weight as a nickle also. The diameter is 20MM. The copper/gold look to it is throwing me off. Should I put it in my electrolysis machine?

Great! It's a 1956 Canadian nickel. When will my ticket arrive? I prefer coffee. ;D

If it was a smashed penny it would be much smaller. Regarless what it is, its not worth anything, but the reason I post is more historical value than monitary.

sorry but there is little left of this one to be called historical, best give up the fight & stick it in the jar with the other blanks.

Looks like it says "in God we trust" around the upper right edge in the middle picture of your last set.
