Looks like it's going to be 1788 but I don't have it nailed yet. What might help is it looks like you have a die break running through Auctori.

This looks close (pic below), but I don't think it's it. And if not, it also eliminates 1788 Miller 12.1-E. I do think it's very likely your variety is in these, but only a few show pictures. Don might have reference material to see the other ones.

Miller 10-C R-6 Very Rare Mailed Bust Left
Miller 11-G R-3 Scarce Mailed Bust Left
Miller 12.1-E Very Scarce Mailed Bust Left
Miller 12.1-F.1 Very Scarce Mailed Bust Left
Miller 12.2-C Very Scarce Mailed Bust Left
Miller 12.2-E R-6 Very Rare Mailed Bust Left

1788 CONNECTICUT COPPER -
MILLER 12.1-F.1

Rarity: Very Scarce

That will help.

I probably won't have the time tomorrow but Don, if you try to ID this one I think the key is how the "C" meets the "T" in Auctori. The dies are pretty similar for at least a few of the varieties but that's one spot I was seeing a difference, and couldn't make a match. (quite likely due to a lack of reference material)

Here is a closer look at the C and T. Hope this helps. I had no idea there were so many variations.

Good call on adding the picture because it looks very different than in your other shots! If no one else confirms an ID, I'll revisit what I looked at and try to do it.

Lots or varieties for 1787, but not bad for 88.

One more pic?

Can you take a similar pic showing the "E" in INDE? I'm wondering if that is a die crack. It does look like one.

Hmmmmn, I gave an ID yesterday on this on his Today's finds post, I see nothing to change my attribution with the new photos. But they are tough to say sometimes with 100% certainty.

ok, if you're wrong we're both wrong. ;D The main reason I questioned that variety was because of the space between the C and T, but with the new picture it shows it's not as tight.

Thanks. think that might just be corrosion.

I don't think I can add anymore than agreeing with the variety Don posted. it looks like a pretty good match. You were lucky because some types, especially 1787, can be so close the missing parts of your coin could have made it near impossible.

Thank you Iron Patch and Don for your expert knowledge on this type of coin. Is there a book on Connecticut Coppers? How do you guys know all the varieties? You guys are awesome and I am going to green check this baby. :hello2:
