DSC01404.JPGDSC01400.JPGI found this piece, what I assume is a coin on the beach/shallow water near Fort Myers/Naples, Florida. As you can see it is about the same size as a penny, however, it is much thicker. I do not know what type of metal it is and it has a greenish crust with small shell fragments stuck to it. If you look close, there are also three cracks through the piece. This is my first time posting and there seems to be some very knowledgable people on here so I thought I'd see what others may know.

Its probably a penny. Copper corrodes green and as it corrodes it builds up layers.

Thanks for the response. I didn't realize copper builds layers as it corrodes. The pic of the thickness does not show its clear thickness. It is slightly thicker than two pennies stacked on each other.

The corrosion goes on top of the coin. I had a zinc cent that had almost double the size one side with corrosion.
