Awesome!! :notworthy: find and Welcome to Tnet. I live in Kane County about 15 min from the Fox river. You have one found one of the oldest coins I have seen or heard of found in our area. I know of a fellow who found a 1700's coin on a island on the Fox. Other was a Colonial coin found in the silt from dredging the river. I am sure others have been found but that's all I know of in my 10 years of detecting. Yeah that's where the oldest stuff is at, around the river. Sad to say I have never had much luck detecting around the river sooo much trash. I would love to hear the back story on how it was found!

If your interested in our local history I had a very interesting book I found online years ago documenting early settlements in northern Il. around 1800-1840's. About the Native Americans interaction with "white man" during those years in our area. Lots of interesting first or second hand accounts told by Pottawatomie Chief Shabbona who was one of the men to warn of the attack on Fort Dearborn where Chicago is today. The book is basically about Shabbona and the Pottawatomie tribe during 1800 to his death in the 1840's. Interesting book one bit I remember talks about how some early farmers (1830's) that were friends with the Chief would wake up in the morning to find Shabbona and all his squaws sleeping in there front yard. If your interested in reading this book it might shed some light on the history of your coin. Let me know and I will send you a personal message on how to find it online. I would post the link here but I don't believe it is stored in my file any long, this was years ago when I read it and would have to do some digging. Good luck and again awesome find!

Nice find! Got me beat! Oldest coin is an 1882 IH I found in a park downtown. There is a lot of history here, but it all under 30 feet of concrete! I'd love to get in a construction site after they dig the foundation, but fences, insurance claims, hard hats, way too much red tape to even try it. When they dug the hole at wolf point (where the first hotel and buildings were in Chicago) it was right by my work and all I could do was stare and salivate, but alas, no way to get the Kennedy family's permission to hunt their land.
