Coin errors/misstrikes

I don't think any such list exists. There are many errors, mistrikes since coins have been made. Minor errors are so numerous and have very little nusmistatic value. On the other hand there are major errors very much in demand. Coins from the 1795's and early 1800's have many overdates, die varities, etc. Later coinage finds some nice errors, 1937D 3 legged buffalo, 1942/1 mercury dime, 1955 lincoln double die are very sought after errors. Every series of coins has it's varieties. A person can go nuts checking every coin for a mistrike which is common and not in much demand. If you stay with the red book, it usually points to the coin errors/mistrikes that command some value. You can find current lincoln cents with doubling and other problems that are a function of manufacturing, but not really in much demand. I guess the latest muck up that the mint made was with the new dollar coins where they forgot the edge lettering.

Okay, I didn't know there were that many..

I guess I should specify to just major errors..etc.

I don't think a true error collector will ever get a full collection,
unless they just pick one year and stop.

there are new finds in Lincoln cents alone every year that will astound you as to the real magnitude of what the mint missed in their inspections.
A complete red book set is very hard to build and maintain.
And that is just the easy one, and it changes every year.

kind of cool though, the collecting never ends.

Ghondi,

I have many of the major errors. I will be glad to share pix of them.
If I don't have it I'll bet I have a friend who does.

Happy to help if you need an ID

Send an email and get the error search going

!!!

Cherrypickers guides, Breen book, VAM books, etc. I don't think there is one book that covers all.

Jeff,

Don't talk to me about the cherry pickers guide

I have been waiting 10 years for those two loosers to finish the set.
That is a topic that seriously sets me off.

I think those guys are locked in a state of ...
"What's it worth to you."

They both have published books with other authors and have yet to finnish the cherry picker?
give me a break.

Loosers.
Both of them.

I hope they read this.
BOTH OF THEM. !

Sorry brother,

Sore spot.

WOOT! tested links and they work ;D

Here are a few sites I use (this one being the most beginner friendly site). I am horrible with links but will try..

These two are Ken Potters web site if I remember right. It show in great detail photos and explanations of error coins and others..

http://koinpro.tripod.com/educationalimagegallery.htm

http://koinpro.tripod.com/

My books....Strike it Rich with pocket change: By Brian Allen and Ken Potter, this is my favorite it so far..(wish it had color photos)
Cherry Pickers Fourth Edition, Good for some things but not what I was looking for.
Coin Collecting for Dummies, have yet to really get into it, but does not look like some thing I wanted..More of a how to Book than a reference book.
And then The Official Red Book 2007...this was a you send us 6.00 we send you a book and coin holder free thing. So what the heck I did and well I have used it for referencing but not much.

Also go to yahoo groups, http://groups.yahoo.com/groups/errorcoininformationexchange
Has some great links, modorator or information person is Mike Diamond...Can post photos and ask questions, get response very quickly...

If these do not work as links I think you can copy and paste to web browser...
