I'm contemplating picking up the 10x14" DD coil for my CX master hunter. I already own the standard 8.5 round and the 7x10 elliptical. does anyone have any experience with the 10x14 and how well it performs? I hunt mostly riverlands that people have lived on since the 1700's and the area gets flooded from time to time making increased depth an advantage. Thanks
PS - Not looking for anything smaller than coins.

You will get better depth with the 10 x 14, about 2 inches on a dime sized object. Of course ground coverage is greatly improved. As you probably already know, the 10 x 14 is quite a bit heavier than either of the stock coils (as you know Garrett changed from the 8.5 to the 7 x 10 as the stock coil). I bought the arm support for about $30 and it makes the bigger coils balance almost perfectly, and doesn't wear out your wrist. They actually balance better than the stock coils, as with the arm support the stock coils kind of float up somewhat. With the bigger coils you don't have to push the coil toward the ground. It's where it should be, slightly hovering above it. Hope this helps.

Good post Shenadoah Digger, the only thing I can add is to try hip mounting the controls to save weight on the arm. The first time I used the 10 x 14 on my 1500 I found a very nice gold ring. It was only 3 inches down though on a ski hill.

Good Luck with it.

In a game that comes down to inches, I'd say that's a big improvement. Thank you both for your input, I appreciate it. :)

Both the coil & the arm rest are on order. I'll do an air test when they come in, the ground is still frozen here. :-[
