Hello, I've been using a whites vx3 for a year an recently installed a 10" dd coil my issue is I find myself digging massive holes as if I can not pinpoint the object I'm trying to retrieve correctly I scan with pinpoint on looking for the shallowest depth thinking I'm on top of target but end up digging to the left then right etc. is the output spectrum so wide that this is normal does anyone else have this issue any advice is much appreciated

Because the 10" dd has a blade shaped magnetic field unlike the conical field a concentric coil produces. You need to turn VCO on. Swing the coil left to right till you get the strongest signal, turn 90 degrees and then repeat.

10-4 thank you very much ill have to review Manuel about vco not exactly sure what that is

variable control oscilation basicly variable volume\pitch, louder as u get closer

I also had problems pinpointing when first using the DD coils. Now I always pinpoint from the front of the DD coils I use. It is much simpler for me. I swing over the target and back off till the sound goes away and then circle around the target with the pinpoint mode. On the last sweep I will pinpoint to the center to get the depth reading and then slide it back to the edge of the sound. The target will be under the leading edge.

The leading or trailing edge of the DD coil is great to help weed out steel bottle caps. At the edge of the sound the VDI will show a -20 or more for a bottle cap. A direct sweep over a bottle cap will have a positive VDI and will jump around quite a bit. This is just a trait of DD coils.

Getting a Garrett pro pointer also is a must. Helps a ton! Just get close and it will do the rest.

10 inch dd coil should be pretty easy to pinpoint with i didnt have problems until i went to a 15x17 dd coil then i would have to pinpoint the target and turn and pinpoint again just to even get close and then it was still a mess at times ...

he nailed it
turn and use the tip...
find it tip it turn tip it again there it is......
