Ok, I'm pissed. Bought a Surfmaster PI yesterday. I stopped on the way home and picked up some silicon grease to use on the gasket and O rings. It seems the only one I forgot was where the cord plugs into the coil. I had the coil wet for about 3 minutes and everything goes static. I'm checking everything and get to the coil, the pigtail isn't tightened down tight. AAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!

Anyone know if it will be ok when it dries, or what's the best way to handle it?

Best way to handle it is to send it back to Whites. You need to get the water out and that is a job best left to the service center.

Just another thing we need to check when buying new detectors which should be checked and tested at the factory. This usually only happens with off brand stuff like Vipers and such.

I made a mistake. The standoff (pigtail) actually was tight. For some reason it doesn't tighten down enough to compress the O-ring. Being tight is enough to to keep the gland watertight, so I'm sure the coil wasn't the issue. I'm not sure what it was.

I bought the detector used locally. The seller hadn't used the detector in some time, so I'm thinking it might be as something simple as a slightly corroded terminal. I'm not an electronics guy, so I don't really want to mess with it. The seller refunded my money and will send it to White's for repair.

Thanks for replying.
