No you do not have to get it calibrated, just make sure it's made specifically for that machine. The bigger the coil the greater the depth but target separation suffers. A rule of thumb is you get the depth of the diameter of the coil as long as you have a descent machine.
 

No calibration. As for depth going from an 8 to a 10" coil your probably not going to get very noticeable depth increase maybe an inch at the very most. More likely half inch. Your main noticeable difference is the speed of covering ground but that goes with a trade off of target separation.
