I haven't seen this or done it on my Tesoros with one exception. The clean sweep coil balances a bit better and seems to swing a bit lighter by mounting it reversed. The mounting ears aren't exactly centered so it does change the leverage a bit. As to the round coils, I see no particular reason for that although some may like the balance that way.

Some detectors were intended to have the coil "backwards" to complement the "handle" end and give the best possible balance ie The Pacemaker back in the mid 70's

Some detectors don't suit the reversed coil idea because though the balance is improved the very short isolator rod, just a few inches means there's a lot of metal shaft running right over the dead centre of the coil.

Many run the coils this way to improve the weight distribution as it will make the machine feel lighter since the weight of the coil is not cantilevered off the end of the shaft. On many of the newer Minlab coils they have moved the coil mounting tabs to the center of the coil to improve weight distribution.

I saw some newbie on the beach with his coil like that (a Whites I recall). He didn't know what he was doing. I think people just assemble the machine, and .......... they just in-advertently put it on that way. They think it therefore must be meant to be that way, and don't realize they can just un-do it, and thread it back the correct way.

Tom is right on the ones I have seen, when I talked to them it always turned out they were new, and didn't know....Most times I think that is the issue.

Hey I might try that on my Tiger Shark... :laughing7: Once while out in the water wading I saw this hunter on the beach walking along draging his coil behind him instead of swinging it side to side. He'd get a Beep and turn around to check it out only to go on walking dragging the coil behind him. Maybe he thought he could see where he dragged his coil so he knew where he'd been. I did not try this as I didn't want anyone to see me..........

Well a lot if good ideas on the reason why and all " good ".............

I would much more prefer to be able to see the ground when pin pointing clearly without the shaft getting in the way.
