In the 1900's, workers were often totaly dependent on their company for every aspect of their life. The token could have been used to pay workers so that they can pay rent, food, tools ext. That means the token could dae to early 1900's


Or could be a promotional tool.

we had a flea market here a while back and the guy who run it , he wanted to give me 20$ for it. but like most of my finds i will not sell. i have heard of this coal co. but don't know to much about. i think its from the 30s or 40s

This coal token is listed in Edkins coal scrip book as a R-10, which means there are no more than 4 examples of this token known. An R-10 is the rarest rating for a coal token. 1997 edition of Edkins list an R-10 at minimum of $60.00.

Killer find there! The coal miners script is some of the best token finds around. They treat it like Slave memoribilia now.
And thats a great example of one.

wow. :o thank you for the info. only 4 known. i got this other one. can you give me any ideal how i could go about cleaning it with out hurting it. thank you and everyone else for looking

Don't clean it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You will ruin the value by cleaning it, it is caled "whizzing," the original look of the coin will be ruinedby remnoving metal by cleaning

Believe me, I have been studing coins since i was 7
