Miners check.jpg

I was working at an old coal camp in Perry county. Found this old miner's check tag. Once his car was loaded, the miner placed his "check" on it -- a small brass check with his number -- which allowed the checkweighman at the tipple to credit him with the tonnage loaded for the day.

The camp was from the First Creek Coal Company 1916-1918

Cool find! Glad I don't have to load those cars!

I still have mine I got when I started mining. I have it on my key ring now..

Cool, how long ago was that swiftfan? I saw the "diggers" on Natgeo were over that way detecting some Hatfield/Mccoy territory. Did you get a chance to meet them?
