They definately look like xylophone keys. Found at different sites though? Is there (or was there) a xylophone manufacturer in your area?

Maybe those are the reeds from one of those old pump organs. There were a couple of old organs where I went to Sunday school. We pumped the foot pedals for the air and "played" them, but they wheezed like a two pack a day smoker. The bellows were shot I think.

Well, they are not bagpipe reeds, but they ARE reeds from some instrument for sure. Do they swing freely throught the slot below them or do they rest on the surface? What I'm asking is are they free reeds, or beater reeds. That will narrow down your search a lot.

Pump organ reeds, I would guess. About right size. I had a small portable late 1800's early 1900's military field pump organ that had similar reeds in it.

Perhaps, Accordion reeds.

Owner became frustrated for he lacked musical talent and kept kicking it until all that was left was scattered parts.

If you find guitar strings scattered. That was my guitar.

Well, ok, I did the "guitar smashing" thing once when I was young... oddly I wasn't invited back. But I'm almost positive the pieces would've stayed in the same proximity. So was there an organ reed manufacturer in the area?

Probably just an organ. I think you misunderstood his post. He found five different sizes, not at five different sites. I had to reread that one post also! LOL

Thank you for the information.

I found a couple of those about 2 weeks ago, and was also clueless as to what they were.
