Went out with my club last weekend to a site pretty far from home, at a park near an old Mission. The club planted a bunch of silver coins-- I did okay with 15 Roosies, 1 Washington, and a 40% half dollar. Not bad for a free hunt.
My neatest find was a 1942 Mercury dime in real nice shape-- it still had dirt on it and was 2" deep. The soil was 'hard as bricks', so all the planted coins were barely covered. This one was there already. Though it wasn't old as the mission, the coin was a real prize! I also took out a 1955 Canadian penny. Another fellow found a nice sterling ring with a blue stone and a few wheat pennies during the hunt.
