I have been metal detecting for 30 years now and it takes a local club hunt to get my first silver dollar. This was a 2 hour hunt and I found a 1922 Peace doller, 2 Barber Halves, 4 Barber quarters, no date Standing Liberty quarter, 7 Washington quarters, 1880 1 FR Helvetia quarter, 2 Barber dimes, 3 Mercury dimes, 1945 Canadian dime, 10 Roosevelt dimes, 1902 Liberty Head nickel, 1943-s Jefferson war nickel, 1896 Indian Head penny, 1927 wheat penny, 1943 steel penny and two flat buttons. I guess that was not too bad for a two hour hunt. I would love to find that much in the field some time. But for now silver is silver. Others found tokens for new metal detectors that were given away as well as other nice prizes. Thank you 4-H for your donations as well as your help to run the event.

The coins were planted by members who did not hunt. We have a spring hunt and a fall hunt. This year we also had tokens for other prizes such as two metal detectors, digging tools, subscripitons to Western/Eastern Treasures magazine and many other give aways. It was a great day to hunt fellow club members.

It was an ungodly amount of silver out there. The initial is 30.00 but, most everyone made money or broke even.
Thanks Ralph for all your hard work.

thanks for the answer 4-H, do they actually bury the coins?

All of the coins in our club hunts are 1964 or older. There are some stamped newer pennies that are used for prizes such as metal detectors, diggers and much more.

that looks like fun, I should join a club
